Publications:
The
American Orchid Society - Publisher of the most popular orchid
periodical. Best site for orchid books. Search for local societies,
shows and retailers.
Orchid
Culture - Charles and Margaret Baker- Excellent reference site
containing detailed habitat and cultural information on many orchid
species. Source of two important, new Paphiopedilum books.
Orchid
Digest Quarterly Publication- Probably the best quality orchid
periodical in United States. Less fluff/more technical than the AOS
publication.
Educational/Pictoral
sites:
Orchid
Species Photo Encyclopedia - Excellent effort at a pictoral index
for the entire Orchidaceae.
Dr.
Tanaka's Paphiopedilum World- Wonderful site! Lots of pics of the
newly discovered Paphiopedilum species. See the rare photo of Paph.
rothschildianum var. album. See Dr. Tanaka's method for growing monster
Paph. bellatulum. See pics of Asian Paphs that just aren't available
here in the US.
Important
supply sources (Just my opinion; I'm not affiliated with any of these
companies):
Sunlight
Supply, Inc.- There are a ton of companies selling lights out there
so I'm not going to list more than this one which I can endorse. I'm
currently using their Sun System VII 500W to light my 6'x11' grow area
and I'm convinced this is the best lamp available for both quality and
design. Shop around at their various retailers as prices vary widely.
Sundance
Supply Polycarbonate Greenhouses- Excellent source for wholesale
prices on components for building your own greenhouse. The best price
you'll find for polycarbonate.
Discount
Garden Supply- The cheapest source for growlight parts, lamps and
supplies. If you are interested in building your own system from the
ground up or need to repair a broken system, this is the place.
Teas
Nursery Co., Inc.- THE source for the original Rands Aircone Pots.
Phytotechnology
Labs, Inc.- If you're not able to shop at SIGMA, this is the place
for you to get anything you need for micropropagation of orchids.
Miscellaneous:
Tina
and Bob's Peace Corps Experience- Not an orchid site, but if you
are interested in learning about my experience in the Peace Corps in
the Congo, please visit my other website.
